”The Improvised Gardens of Iași” is a documentary photography project that seeks to question the existence of spaces arranged around apartment blocks in Iași from an urban planning perspective, while also analyzing this form of expression of the human-nature relationship from a social point of view — particularly how people relate to the space outside the private domain. Is this connection a “cultivated” one, inherited, administratively or territorially speculated, or is it a perfectly natural behavior for the urban dweller? The project continually navigates the tolerance zone of public perception toward these spaces, which oscillates between an appreciation of individual creativity in public self-expression through built elements, and discomfort due to pollution and the unlawful occupation of shared space.
